Green Bay Packers Topple Eagles 21-16 in Wild Card Game

by

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (WTAQ) - It was a historic day for the Green Bay Packers, as they found a running game in their 21-16 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field Sunday.

Specifically, running back James Starks set a franchise rookie rushing record with 123 yards on 23 carries. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers had a big game, finishing 18-of-27 for 180 yards and 3 touchdowns. Rodgers became the first QB in NFL history to throw 7 TD passes in his first 2 playoff games.

The Packers led 21-10, until Eagles QB Michael Vick scored on a 1 yard sneak with 4:48 left in the game. Philadelphia then elected to go for a two point conversion, but tight end Brent Celek was flagged for illegal touching after stepping out of bounds before catching a pass in the back of the end zone. That followed a big rush, forcing Vick to get rid of the ball on the ensuing try.

The Eagles got another chance following forcing a Packers punt. DeSean Jackson couldn't find the same magic he had against the New York Giants a few weeks back with the return. Philadelphia drove down into green and gold territory, before Vick threw a pass that was intercepted in the end zone by Tramon Williams with :34 left in the game.

The Packers will now face the Atlanta Falcons Saturday night at the Georgia Dome. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. on 97.5/1360 News Talk WTAQ.
