WATCH: Local Sorority Partners with CARES To Commemorate National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

On February 11th, the ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho Incorporated will get publicly tested for
HIV to encourage HIV testing in Kalamazoo at CARES, 629 Pioneer St., Kalamazoo, MI.
The symbolic testing will start at 1pm and regular HIV testing will be offered until 5pm. STD
testing is also available courtesy of the Kalamazoo Health Department. Alumni Chapter
President Zenda Thomas will lead the ladies and explain their commitment and focus on the
Healthy Choices, Healthy Living, Healthy Generations (H3) program. The public is invited to
witness this event so they are able to communicate to their friends the ease of HIV testing.
On February 12th, the Ladies of Sigma and CARES will close out the commemoration by
hosting the 3rd Annual Black Love Event: Preserving Future Generations at FIRE, 1249
Portage St., Kalamazoo, MI. The event will start at 7pm and end at 10pm. This evening is a
planned social event for teens and their supporters of the Greater Kalamazoo Area to come
and get educated about HIV/AIDS. In addition, there will be a dialogue regarding teen
pregnancy, STDs as well as making healthy choices to live a healthy life.
During this event, teens will have an opportunity to showcase their talents through dance,
poetry, singing, etc with a focus on HIV/AIDS education, awareness and treatment. Local
talent, Nathan Moore and The Neon Tetris will headline the event.
