BERLIN (Reuters) - Four people were killed and a number injured after a woman armed with a gun opened fire in the southern German town of Loerrach, local police said on Sunday.
"The situation is under control," said a spokesman for local police. The suspected killer was among the four dead, he added.
Police said shots were first heard after an explosion in an apartment block in central Loerrach. Shortly afterwards, a woman armed with a gun ran out of the house.
Local broadcaster SWR said the woman entered the nearby St. Elisabethen-Krankenhaus hospital and fired off several rounds. She was then shot and killed in an exchange of fire with police.
Police said two people were killed inside the hospital and that the bodies of a woman and a girl were found in the house. A police officer was also seriously wounded, they added.
