Packers roll on


Sunday's 31-3 victory over the Minnesota Vikings was satisfying on several levels for the Green Bay Packers.  The convincingly put Minnesota in their rear view mirror, proved the quarterback succession of 2008 was the right choice and they maintained their standing in the NFC North Division with sights now set on becomming the top team in the NFC with a date against the 8-2 Atlanta Falcons coming next.  Head Coach Mike McCarthy reported only three injuries from the game, all in the secondary.  Anthony Smith suffered an ankle sprain on speical teams and did not return.  Pat Lee reinjured his ankle but was able to return and Atari Bigby suffered a hamstring injury and he didn't return to the game.

The Wisconsin Badgers punished Michigan on the ground Saturday in a 48-28 victory at the Big House.  James White rushed for 181 yards and 2 scores, Monte Ball had 173 yards with 4 scores as Wisconsin stayed tied atop the Big Ten at 6-1, 10-1 overall.  Wisconsin remains at number five in the USA Today Coaches Poll and number 7 in this week's BCS Standings.  Their regular season finale is at Camp Randall against Northwestern on Saturday.  The St. Norbert Green Knights season ended with a thud in the opening round of the NCAA III playoffs, losing to unbeaten North Central College 57-7 on Saturday.

Phoenix get road win, Badgers fall

The UW Green Bay Phoenix defeated Miami of Ohio on their home floor Sunday 69-65 as Rahmon Fletcher scored 23 points.  Bryquis Perine added 17 as GB improved to 2-2 on the season.  They'll finish the CBE Classic Monday afternoon against IUPUI.  Wisconsin got knocked off on the road by UNLV 68-65 to fall to 2-1 on the year.  Jordan Taylor led the Badgers with 19.  Marquette gets number one ranked Duke tonight in Kansas City.

Gamblers sweep

The Green Bay Gamblers remain tied for first place in the USHL's Eastern Division after sweeping a pair of games against the Des Moines Buccaneers this weekend.  The Gamblers have 22 points with a 10-3-2 record, even with Cedar Rapids for the Division lead (11-3-0).  The Gamblers have a pre-Thanksgiving Day game next at the Resch Center Wednesday night, hosting the Waterloo Blackhawks.

Slow start to hunt

The state's 9 day gun deer season opened Saturday but cool, damp weather may have kept the number of hunters and the opening weekend harvest numbers down.  The State Department of Natural Resources will release the opening weekend numbers later Monday.
