SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - The fire department in the City of Sheboygan could have a new look if a committee resolution is approved.
Under the proposal passed by the Salaries and Grievances Committee Monday night, the City’s fire department would adopt a new hierarchy. After the Chief, the department would have two deputy fire chiefs, eliminating a third deputy chief position along with the training commander title, although one of the deputy chiefs would assume all the training commander responsibilities.Due to Chief Jeff Hermann’s promotion and the loss of personnel due to retirements, the fire department will need to promote from within to fill vacant positions.
The new plan is one of two fire department related resolutions being forwarded to the Common Council, with the other recommending the lifting of the hiring freeze, which would enable the department to hire three new firefighters.
