CALUMET COUNTY, Wis. (WTAQ) - As volunteer firefighters continue to mourn the death of 33-year-old Steven Koeser, other departments are stepping in to help. The Badger Firefighters Association coordinated a drop-off of equipment Friday. Organization President Ron Nabb brought hoses and portable tanks in a trailer.
"They needed help and I wanted to figure out a way we could resolve some problems and make it work." said Nabb. "That's the good part, they can be a functioning fire department again."
The North Fond du Lac Fire Department donated things like firefighting suits, gloves and boots earlier this week. The St. Anna Fire Department could be up and running thanks to the equipment coming in, but still are unsure if they're emotionally ready to go by next week. A life-size bronze statue of a firefighter was received and will be used as part of a memorial for Koeser. The statue was donated by the Mount Calvary, St. Cloud and Town of Calumet fire departments.
For now, the statue is sitting in front of the St. Anne church for Koeser's funeral Saturday. It will eventually be moved down to the firehouse to be part of a permanent memorial.
