After a scintilating 75 yard punt return for a score last week against Indianapolis, plus a still sore kneed Will Blackmon, Packers head coach Mike McCarthy says he's giving first year free agent Jason Chery a shot to return both punts and kickoffs against the Kansas City Chiefs in the pre-season finale Thursday night. Chery spent time on Carolina's and Pittsburgh's practice squad last year and when he worked out for the Pack this spring, ran 40 yard dashes in the 4.29 to 4.32 range. That speed was on display at Lambeau last week and now Chery has a shot to earn his way onto the roster.
Jay Bruce started the night with a home run and ended with a walk off RBI single as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 in 10 innings at the Great American Ballpark Monday night. Bruce went deep off Randy Wolf in the bottom of the first inning but the Brewers battled all night. Ryan Braun and Casey McGehee each had two hits with an RBI and the Brewers had fine defensive work, turning 4 double plays. Lorenzo Cain started one in centerfield and also had a remarkable catch banging into the wall. The game was decided by the bullpens and Cincinnati's was better as Trevor Hoffman took the loss to fall to 2-7. Game two of the series is Tuesday night with Yovanni Gallardo facing Aaron Harang.
