Three hurt in Baton Rouge refinery fire: Exxon

TORONTO (Reuters) - A flash fire at Exxon Mobil's Baton Rouge, Louisiana, refinery broke out on Wednesday, sending three workers to the hospital, according to a spokeswoman for the company.

The company did not specify what units were involved in the fire, but trade sources said the fire began in or near a reformer, and that damage was said to be minor.

"I'm not hearing any operating impacts," said one Gulf Coast trader.

A spokesman for the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality said the fire was minor and the department did not send representative to the site.

Refinery manager Steve Blume said the fire did not affect general operations, and its cause has not yet been determined.

Blume said two of the three workers injured by the fire are Partco contractors and one is an ExxonMobil employee.

The three workers were transported by EMS to a local hospital and one of them was released. The other two were still in the hospital.

The fire began Wednesday morning and was put out by the refinery's in-house volunteer fire department.

"It was a flash fire from flammable vapors or light ends," said Sergeant Markus Smith, public information officer for the Louisiana State Police.
