VILAS COUNTY (WRN) - A northern Wisconsin man died after he tried to put out a fire in the basement of his home. 45-year-old Richard Haag of Boulder Junction died at a trauma center in St. Paul Minnesota. Firefighters were called to the house around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Haag’s father told authorities his son went downstairs to extinguish the fire, and he never came up. Vilas County sheriff’s officials said rescuers found Haag and took him to a hospital in Woodruff, and he flown later to St. Paul. Investigators are still trying to determine how the fire started. They said it was confined to the basement.
