GREEN BAY, Wis. (WTAQ) - A Packers great and a current member of the team are joining a local Christian group to improve water quality in Africa.
"Every two weeks, now, we have a water tower going up," Acts 1:8 Ministry President Jeff Van Beaver said.
The towers sit atop buildings and collect rain water. Van Beaver says the water towers mean a big change for the residents there.
"The ponds that they were retrieving the water from were also the ponds animals used," he said. "It was very, very bad drinking water."
Packers Nose Tackle Ryan Picket was inspired by the project. This season, Picket donates $1,000 towards the fund for every ten tackles he has. Recently, former-Packer Willie Davis has gotten involved, as well.
"When they both became involved, 'Packers nation' really stepped up to the plate," Van Beaver said. "To date we have over 30 water towers built."
To contribute to the project, Van Beaver says you can call Acts 1:8's office at (920) 494-2289, or you can contact the group through their website, www.acts18.org.
