Welcome Back

by Nick Vitrano

Every year, at tournament time, we reconnect with cities we otherwise would not know even exist in our state.  Take perennial participant Cuba City, for example.  Cuby City is actually a beautiful city in a beautiful part of our state.  And the only reason I know that is once, while roadtripping to a friend’s home, my wife and I passed though it and we both went, “Oh, hey – this is where Cuba City is!”  I always imagine that residents of places like Cuba City say they same upon their first encounter on the streets of today’s WIXX Preps Pick.

Oh baby…this is gonna be beauty.

Following a thrilling 42-37 OT triumph over St. Mary’s Springs last night, the Algoma Wolves have advanced to tomorrow’s finale in defense of their 2013 title.  It’s their third trip to state in four years.  As I’ve said many times during this feature, sustained success in any athletic endeavor is tough – it’s especially difficult on the high school level.  Congratulations to the Wolves – the players, the coaches, the administration, the fans - and freshly crowned All-Stater Kennedy Blahnik.  Go get that gold ball and get the whole state of Wisconsin goin’, “Oh hey – this is where Algoma is!”
