Huskies Unite!

by Nick Vitrano

We got a great nomination this week from Troy regarding the  New Holstein Huskies.  As Queen Latifah once sang/rapped: U-N-I-T-Y…that’s a unity.

In an Eastern Wisconsin Football Conference opening game featuring two rival teams located only 6 miles apart, the New Holstein Huskies ran with a mission over the Kiel Raiders.  The Huskies won 48-24 in their first conference win since 2010.

The Huskies ran with a chip on their shoulder and exploded for 553 yards on 67 carries or 8+ yards per carry.  The offense obviously carried their load, but the defense faced a battle with a returning unanimous all-conference running back in Kiel’s backfield.  The Huskies defense rose to the occasion and did their job, holding Kiel’s running game to 58 yards on 24 carries!

This was an electric night, fueled by an awesome display of Huskies team unity, solid blocking by the O-line, a stingy D-line, 2 rushers over 150 yards.  Fans went out in full force on the Huskies side.  There was even an RV in the parking lot for New Holstein students to tailgate.  This was electric!  This was high school football in its finest hour.  Congratulations to Coach Matt Rupp and your staff on building a team.  Please consider the whole New Holstein Huskies varsity football team for the WIXX Preps Pick this week.

You’ve got it, Troy.  Well played!  Good luck at Kewaskum tonight and good luck to all of our area teams.  Keep the nominations coming HERE  and don’t forget to tag your Instagram pics at all of your games: #WIXXPreps.
