Hi. My name is Otis. I've had Type I diabetes(juvenile diabetes) since I was 13. I'm sick of it. I'm tired of pricking my finger to test my blood 8 times every day. I'm tired of changing my insulin-pump site(It's a big needle every couple of days). I'm tired of my kids worrying about me having low blood sugars. I don't want to go blind. I don't want to lose a toe, or my foot....or an entire leg. I don't want to have a heart attack. I am sick of wondering everytime my kids ask for a drink if they are diabetic now too.
This is Spencer. He's tired of it all too. He's also diabetic. We met at the JDRF Family kick-off event.

Notice our smiles? It's because we are SOOOOO close to a cure for Type I diabetes. I mean really close. Most people in the field say the cure will come within our lifetime. Some researchers say it could come withing 10 years. We are ready for it! Every day 40 kids are diagnosed with Type I diabetes. Last week there were 8 new cases of Type I Diabetes in the Green Bay area. YOU can help end this. JDRF has one goal. To find a cure for my diabetes. Over 80% of their money goes exactly twards that. Finding a cure.
Type 1 Diabetes and Type II diabetes are NOT the same disease. Type 1 diabetes(juvenile, or insulin-dependent) is not caused by diet. It has nothing to do with being overweight. It is a genetic disease that affects 3 million Americans. People you know have Juvenile Diabetes. They live with it every day. You can help them. And their families. My kids really hope you can join the JDRF Walk to cure Diabetes. There's one in Green Bay May 8th(also in Fond Du Lac that same day.) There's one the next weekend at Riverside park in Neenah. Please get a team together and walk. For me. For Keegan. For Taylor. For Spencer. Please.
