The Packers aren't vacationing this bye week, they're convalescing. Mike McCarthy might want to petition the NFL for a two week break. Three more injuries were added to the list after Sunday's 31-17 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Jordy Nelson went out first with a sprained ankle that doesn't appear to be very bad. Clay Matthews went down with a hamstring pull that occured while chasing down John Skelton. McCarthy said Monday afternoon it might be a couple of weeks for the team's sack leader. Matthews told the coach it didn't feel as bad as prior pulls. In each of his first two years in the league, Matthews missed most or all of training camp and the pre-season working through similar injuries. Bryan Bulaga may be the most concerning of the new injuries. He hurt his hip when his leg was planted and he got awkwardly twisted around. McCarthy said Bulaga may have been better off just falling to the ground. He's getting medical opinions on the severity of the injury this week and we may not know much more until Thursday or Friday. McCarthy also announced rookie Nick Perry, sidelined since the Houston game, will seek a second opinion on his knee injury. As for the rest of the walking wounded, the bye week might allow the likes of John Kuhn and Sam Shields to return but it will probably be December before we see Greg Jennings, Charles Woodson and Cedric Benson. It's decision time for the two remaining players on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. After Frank Zombo was brought onto the roster last weekend but didn't dress against Arizona, tight end Andrew Quarless and tackle Derrick Sherrod must have their fates determined by Wednesday. Quarless has been practicing for the last couple of weeks coming off major knee surgery and is a possible call up. The team must either put him on the roster, send him to injured reserve for the rest of the season, or release him outright. IR is the likely landing place for Sherrod, last year's number one pick who has had a lot of difficulty coming back from a broken leg. The Packers will need all hands on deck for the stretch run, five of their seven games coming against division foes and only one of the seven, Tennessee, sports a losing record right now.
