Wednesday practice update

Posted by Mark Daniels on

Only two players were unable to practice Wednesday for the Packers and head coach Mike McCarthy has all but ruled them both out for Saturday night's NFC Divisional Playoff against the Falcons in Atlanta.  Linebacker Frank Zombo is just not repsonding from a late season knee sprain.  McCarthy said based on his slow recovery and the continuity the defense and special teams have shown of late with Erik Walden starting at linebacker and the cover teams lining up the same 11 guys the past three weeks, Zombo is extremely doubtful of making it to the active 45 roster.   Backup offensive lineman Jason Spitz injured a calf muscle Tuesday in practice and did not participate Wednesday.   Spitz has been the quiet veteran in reserve all year after having last season cut short by back surgery.  The injury is similar to the one suffered by Cullen Jenkins who missed four games.  Spitz appeared to be moving fine around the locker room but didn't answer questions.  If he's not available to back up at center and the guard positions, second year pro T.J. Lang would become the primary backup.   As for the rest of the intitial injury report for the Falcons game,  three players were listed as full participants, Donald Driver (knee), Ryan Pickett (ankle) and Charles Woodson (toe).  Among those limited in practice was safety Atari Bigby with a groin pull.  McCarthy said there's a chance Bigby could be ready this week and the former starting safety would be a big help this weekend.  Also limited were Brian Bulaga (shoulder), Chad Clifton (knees), Korey Hall (knee), Cullen Jenkins (calf), and Clay Matthews (shin).
