Super Week is really revving up now. Both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Packers arrived today, best Cowpoke look belonged to Hines Ward, a belt buckle as big as a hubcap. A few of the Packers went Western theme as well. Funny how many of the guys look like geeky tourists, stepping out of the plane with camcorders rolling. My first morning on Radio Row got off to a fairly smooth start. A couple of eye opening interviews, especially Ray Lucas. The former special teammer turned quarterback got addicted to pain pills after numerous surgeries and got little to no help from the league or players union. A group called PAST stepped in pro bono to help him get the counseling and treatment needed to get clean. Had a nice chat with Donny Anderson, the former number one pick who grabbed a pair of Super Bowl rings back in day, still lives in the Dallas area. This afternoon, attended a pair of news conferences from the North Texas Host committee, chaired by Roger Staubach who hasn't aged one day. Next up was hearing from a White House cabinet member. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano met the media to discuss the security detail for the week and it's massive. The Super Bowl is considered a Level 1 national security event and with good reason.
Finally took a bus ride from downtown to the town of Los Colinas where the Packers will be headquartering at the Omni Mandalay hotel. Cheeseheads and scores of other fans had the place staked out for their arrival hoping for an autograph or just a glimpse. One little boy was practically shaking after seeing Aaron Rodgers walk by. Mike McCarthy along with Rodgers, Charles Woodson, Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, AJ Hawk and Clay Matthews all had news conferences. Here's a few highlights from Mike's arrival news conference in advance of the two ring circus under the big top tomorrow, MEDIA DAY, it's gonna get as crazy as the weather.
