Another deal down

Packers General Manager Ted Thompson is content with tumbling down the draft board making a second trade today.  A deal with the San Francisco 49ers gave up Green Bay's 5th round pick (163) to acquire the 49ers 6th rounder (174) and 7th round choice (231).  Thompson now has five picks over the final two rounds.  Might be a couple of motivations for the second trade down (the first with Denver in round 4), Thompson must like the value of players still on his board late and secondly, without the ability to sign undrafted college free agents upon conclusion of today's draft because of the lockout, he might as well pick them. It will be slightly more expensive but he'll add more bodies to the camp roster, if there is a camp. Thompson relishes the free agent scramble of the draft hitting big twice last year with Frank Zombo and Sam Shields.
