There's light at the end of the tunnel. The Packers conducted their last two a day workout Thursday, the players have checked out of St. Norbert College's McCormick Hall and the second of four pre-season games is at hand. Saturday night, the Packers meet the Seahawks at Seattle's Qwest Field. Mike McCarthy plans to play this game much like he did for the Cleveland Browns. Starters will get around 20 snaps and the game plans will be fairly vanilla. The team may be light at the linebacker position. Clay Matthews will miss a second game with a hamstring pull and A.J.Hawk rolled an ankle at Thursday morning's practice and he might sit this one out. Safety Atari Bigby was back at camp after undergoing surgery on his problematic ankle. Bigby indicated it might be 4, possibly 8 weeks before he's ready to play. It depends on how quickly he heals. That means rookie Morgan Burnett will almost certainly open the season at strong safety opposite Nick Collins. Here's a list of players you'll want to keep an eye on Saturday night in Seattle. On offense, Allen Barbre needs a very strong showing. He had the yips at camp this week, false starting all over the place. With Jason Spitz returning to practice, Brian Bulaga now getting reps at guard and Marshall Newhouse also able to play inside, Barbre may find himself on the down side of the bubble if he struggles. Charles Dillon, Shaun Gore and Patrick Williams will have to make a few spectacular grabs or play lights out on special teams. If they don't, I can't see them moving past the always hustling Brett Swain for that final wide receiver spot. Quinn Johnson has the ability to be a snot-jarring road grader as a lead blocker in the run game, but against Cleveland, for every pancake he delivered, he ran into holes or around tackles without finding anyone to hit. His lead blocks must be an every down thinig or Korey Hall and John Kuhn will retain their fullback jobs. Sam Shields must catch every punt kicked his way. He struggled catching jugs machine punts this week. He's got exciting potential as a corner but special teams is his quickest ticket to the roster. Fans seem to get too excited about wins and losses in the pre-season. The ultimate objective is to get the personel decisions right. You're better off watching players, not neccessarily plays. Here's what some of the guys in the locker room had to say about Pre-season test number two:
