APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — New information has been released on last months reported threat at Xavier High School in Appleton.
Since the recent surges of school shootings, students are learning that sometimes a shooter will pull a fire alarm to cause a disruption before a shooting event. That’s what caused a Xavier student to call police when they heard seemingly suspicious noises during an unplanned fire drill.
Appleton Police were at the scene within three minutes of receiving the phone call, and no threat was found. Police Chief Polly Olson said it ended up being a good opportunity for officers to practice exercises used in these situations.
“It gave us an opportunity to, when it was all done, debrief and look at ways we need to shore up any weaknesses in our response.” said Chief Olson.
Since the call was made with genuine concern, and was not a prank, Olson says nobody is facing any type of legal repercussions.
