One of my favorite times to shoot photographs is during the Blue Hour. The Blue Hour refers to the one hour before sunrise and the one hour after sunset when the sun is below the horizon.
The sky generally takes on a deep blue color during this twilight phase, although I have also captured beautiful blazing red skies.
The Blue Hour is a fantastic time to shoot landscape photos due to the quality of light. It can also be the perfect time to shoot lighted buildings, which are more difficult to photograph after nightfall.
The Blue "Hour" is actually no such thing, as you'll generally find the quality of usable light is gone within 20 minutes of the sun falling below the horizon. For that reason, you'll want to plan your Blue Hour shoots and be prepared to make the most of the time available.
