Ted's weekly update

by Mark Daniels

Packers General Manager Ted Thompson survived another weekly firing line from the media at training camp this morning.  It's not like he's taking high caliper fire and he has developed a pretty notorious shield by offering up very little about individual players at camp.  When one new beat reporter asked about how Eddie Lacy looks, Ted deadpanned, "He's doing fine."  Thompson apologized to the reporter saying he'd give the same answer to a grizzled veteran like Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com.  Still, the GM did cover ground on the injuries so far in camp, how Johnny Jolly doesn't appear to have lost any of his instincts for the game even three years away and how nice it was to take care of Ryan Longwell who approached the front office a while back about retiring as a Packer.  My line of questioning concerned his decision to sign Vince Young a week into camp to compete for the backup quarterback job, yes I mistakingly asked how's he doing, but I also wanted to know if Ted will see enough of him to make a hard call in three weeks.  I also thought it would be interesting to hear how Thompson is not only watching his camp every day, but his team of pro scouts are watching all 31 other teams throughout the pre-season.  You can hear the GM for yourself:
