Donalds Freestyle Posted May 22, 2012 by Katie Schurk

For anyone who missed Donald's freestyle dance last night- or would just like to relive it- here you go!  I am still slightly annoyed he hasn't incorporated his first down shimmy into it!

Be Still My Heart Posted May 16, 2012 by Katie Schurk

Anyone who has ever had to travel for sports can totally relate to this.  You find anything you can to make the bus/van rides go faster.  Watch what the Harvard baseball team came up with...I now have a crush on the entire baseball team.  They give Biebers video for this song a run for its money.

Hot Mess Mud Run Posted May 7, 2012 by Katie Schurk

hot mess

I am so excited about this event!!!  I have gotten into the whole running thing a year and a half ago and have been dying to do a mud run!  So I got the wheels a turning- spoke to some people- and WIXX is making it happen!

We (along with Miller 64) are going to be sponsoring the 1st ever Hot Mess Mud Run!  It will be September 15th in Greenleaf.  I am going to try to fill you guys in by answering these questions...

-What is a mud run?

It is a super fun event!  It will be a 5K obstacle course (that we will be putting together with a little help from the marines.) and of course we will be going through the mud!  There will be walls to climb over- there will be water to run through- mud to slide across-and maybe a little splash of color!  The best part about it- winners who finish will also receive a beer to celebrate a job well done!

-Do I have to be a hardcore runner?

Absolutely not- that is what is so great about this event!  You can be someone who runs daily, or someone who just wants to get started.  It is suitable for all levels- you can choose to pass over any obstacle you don't feel comfortable doing!

-Do I run solo?

You can OR you can put together a team (for more encouragement, and lets be honest, laughing in the mud with your friends, or having to haul one of your friends over a wall, is just more fun.)  Their will also be awards being handed out for things like, best team name- best tshirt- best group costume! If you can't tell we are focused on the fun part of this event!

-Is this a girls only thing?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!  We want men AND women- I can't wait to make my husband participate in this!

Is there an age requirement?

Yes- must be 18

Is their a fee?

Yes and proceeds will be donated to a local charity

When is sign up?

You will be able to sign up midweek- and I will have even more details for you then!

What if I don't want to run?

No problem- we need people cheering us on!  We will have a beer tent and bleachers for spectators!  Live music may also be provided!

Bieber Boyfriend Video Posted May 4, 2012 by Katie Schurk

I would like to think this is a late wedding present to me.  Justin Bieber's Boyfriend video finally out!  Hate him or love him, admit it, this song is catchy :) I have now watched it numerous times and been yelled at by Murphy to turn it off numerous times.  Murphy can suck it.

Settling In. Posted May 3, 2012 by Katie Schurk

Our one month anniversary in the Dells with Family!  Yeah we didn't plan a 1 month trip, it just happened that way :)

Well it has been a little over a month since we have been married.  It still baffles me that Kim Kardashian couldn't make it longer than three months.  It just makes me think, wow, did you even try?  Anyway, I know it isn't right to judge, and it isn't my situation, but come on, for pure pride reasons wouldn't you have at least made it last like 6 months?

Now that we are getting the swing of things, yep not much different.  I think we have had a little bit of an attitude adjustmen on certain things.  Like what is the point in bickering?  We are with each other for the rest of our lives, is it really worth bickering over something you are going to have to deal with for the rest of your life?  Yep, not worth it :)

One fun thing we didn't know, or realize- our insurance went down!  We got our car insurance statements in the mail, and what a pleasant surprise!  If someone could explain why, that would be great :)  Our next big step- buying a house.  Oh boy.  It has already been quite the ride.  Stay tuned for this adventure!

My husband is moonlighting as Randy Wolf... Posted April 24, 2012 by Katie Schurk

I was on Maino's other spanky little show yesterday and they noticed that my husband looks just like Randy Wolf of the Milwaukee Brewers.  They then put this together for me.  What do you think?

Coolest Part of our Honeymoon Posted April 23, 2012 by Katie Schurk

One of the coolest things we got to do on our honeymoon was swim with the dolphins.  It was something I had always wanted to do and I knew with it being our honeymoon we could have the attitude of this is a once in a lifetime thing, cost isn't a concern.  I am going to warn you, it is pricey, but it was awesome!  I had set everything up with Michelle from Fox World Travel ahead of time and it was perfect.  Their was a shuttle ready to pick us up, when we go there they had our names and everything was ready to go, and we had a shuttle waiting for us when we were done.  We were never concerned about anything.  Safety was not as issue!  Here are some pictures of the day!

Broken er no? Posted April 17, 2012 by Katie Schurk

Well it is officially- we have no room in our apartment.  We are being overrun by wedding presents.  Granted it is a pretty awesome problem to have....but I may have broken some toes on one gift.  The same gift that my husband jammed his knee on a day later :)  Anyways, long story short- I woke up in the middle of the night to rain.  I thought I left my window open.  I ran to the front door with the lights off, as I was running, this picnic table got in my way.  Pain ensued.  I am now limping and can barely put a shoe on.  After doing some online research I self diagnosed they are broken.  Maino doesn't believe me.  I also learned that their is nothing you can do for broken toes...just tape those bad boys together and wince through it.  So Maino wanted you guys to weigh in.  Broken, er no?

the broken toe..(s) FYI- I am not spreading my toes.  This is now how they sit.bh

the healthy foot above- just so you can compare.

and finally- the culprit.  The reason I broke my toe.  I had many choice names for it when it happened.

Paperwork Posted April 16, 2012 by Katie Schurk

paper

Sooo the process of my name change is done...I think.  The amount of paperwork they have you do to change your name is kind of ridiculous.  I just remember doing it and thinking the entire time this is some sick joke, right?  I mean really, why don't the men have to do this?  Let's be honest- it is the women who do most of the wedding planning, so when the wedding was over I was able to breathe a sigh of relief thinking, wow my life will not be ever consumed with running errands and doing putzy things.  Oh wait, then I had to go sit at the DMV all afternoon.  Or run for the third time in a month to the courthouse to pick up copies of our marriage license.  Or spend an afternoon in the social security office to get a new social security card.  Although I think my personal favorite was dealing with the insurance companies while trying to get on my husbands insurance plan.  I had asked Murphy, if you have a normal job how do you do this stuff?  Luckily I have the luxury of having my afternoons off, which meant I didn't have an issue dealing with the government offices being closed, but seriously if you work a 9-5 job, how do you accomplish this without having to take a vacation day???  Next step- banking.  The emails asking if we have cashed the wedding checks have begun to pile up.  Something people don't seem to remember is you can't cash these checks until the name change is complete considering they are made out to you in your new name.  Aaaand since my husband is one of these people who works a normal hour job, being able to head to the bank together within its hours of business is a task all on its own.  So new brides word to the wise.  Open a bank account together before the wedding.  So you can send one of you to cash the checks!  Oh yeah, and guests- I know the nostalgia of writing out a check to the bride in her new name is super fun and cute (and I loved seeing it) but if you would like it cashed at a decent time, write the check to the groom, or in the brides maiden name.  Just a few words of advice :)

Another money saver! Posted April 12, 2012 by Katie Schurk

I have had a lot of people asking me about my cake!  Well here is a little tidbit on a money saver.  I found this quite idea to to do cupcakes, but have the cupcakes look like flowers.  We put the cupcakes in a flower pot and it served as the cake AND the centerpieces...saves us another few hundred bucks!  Anyways we got to have a bunch of different flavors in the bouquet of cupcakes (flavors like creamsicle, red velvet, almond, etc) AND they were the hit of the night!  Everyone was talking about them!  They turned out so cute and tasted FANTASTIC!  Here are some pics, but seriously the pictures do not do them justice!  Our cake lady, Sugar Mama, was amazing!!!!  Email me if you would like her info!

Unsolicited Wedding Advice.... Posted April 10, 2012 by Katie Schurk

kiss

When I had originally started this blog, I thought wow, how great, I will have a diary of what the wedding planning process was like.  Little did I know you guys would end up helping me plan my wedding!  And I am so thankful for that!  I got so many great tips from you guys!  So I decided I want to help pay it forward.  A week after my wedding my sister asked me if I could go back and change anything about the day would I?  I said yes, but only to two things.

One I would have changed the time of my hair appointment.  I did something that one of my bridesmaids did at her wedding.  Instead of having all of my girls go out to a salon, I brought the salon to us.  Thankfully the girl who does my hair has become a very good friend of mine and agreed to do this.  She brought a friend with her and they knocked on my door at 8:30 am ready to get us all prettied up.  She had originally suggested 8 am.  I said no, one of the reasons I wanted to do it the way we did it was so no one would have to get up super early.  So that people could just come in in their pajamas, grab a mimosa, listen to my Justin Bieber wedding day mix and chat.  Well- that 30 extra minutes would have been a huge help.  It would have prevented the hotel room calling us every 15 minutes starting at 11 asking when we were going to be out of the room.  It would have accounted for the 15 minutes we spent convinving my 3 year old niece that my friend Erin also does all of the Disney princesses hair so she shouldn't be scared of a curling iron.  I would not have had to stress out every time it was someone elses turn to get their hair done and a bridesmaid was missing.  Essentially it was the only thing on the day of the wedding that stressed me out.  It was also the only time I let it show.

The other thing I would have changed was the time of the wedding.  We had a 3 oclock wedding.  The reason we did a late wedding is because we had a Friday wedding and we wanted to give people the opportunity to come to the ceremony, and we thought hey if they only have to leave work an hour or two early it would be more likely they would come.  Well- the church was packed!  It made me realize you know what this church is jammed with people who love us.  These people would still be here if the ceremony was at 2 or 3...and if we would have had that extra hour I wouldn't have rushed the pictures.  I was so worried about having my wedding party sitting around bored that I was like ok lets get these pictures done...because of this it made the whole afternoon seem rushed.

Other than that I don't see myself changing much.  And if those are my only two things- WOW.  I am lucky!  And again a lot of it is thanks to you..I also wanted to pass on some more advice.  I received an email from a friend this morning about wedding photographers.  She wanted to know if what I paid was comprable to what she was getting quoted.  Here was my advice to her...

Wedding photographer was one of the hardest things I had to figure out.  I knew who I wanted and what I wanted, I just didn't want to pay that amount.  When you only plan a wedding once, it is hard to compare prices.  I could talk to my friends and sisters, but unless they were married in the last year- the prices are soo different...and trust me when you see that price it is going to shock you.  I kept going back and forth because I knew the photographer I was picking was giving me a heck of a deal, but in hindsight I was thinking, ok how many pictures are we actually going to put up on the wall- 2, 3 tops?  And once we have kids, will those pictures get taken down to be replaced by them?  My sister in law did give me a piece of advice, if she could do her wedding all over again, that is the one thing she would have spent more money on.  Her photographer.  So I weighed the pros and cons, and booked who I wanted.  Let me tell you- I am so glad I did.  Our pictures turned out phenomonal...and I haven't even seen all of them yet.  My suggestion to her was do your research.  When you start looking up prices and checking out the websites you will be able to pinpoint why some photographers are so cheap and some are so expensive.  You will also see that some are ridiculously expensive and the price you have been quoted is actually quite reasonable.  I think my favorite part about our photographer is she is someone I am hoping to photograph us throughout our entire journey.  She did our engagement pictures, she did our wedding pictures, and I want her to do our family pictures when we accomplish that next step.  To think that the same person will be documenting such important parts in your life, and you want them to be a part of that, is a major compliment.

So now I open it to you guys...do you have any other questions about the wedding planning process?  FYI- I was a cheapo bride.  So bring it :)
