Spaghetti Sauce doesn't come from a jar

by Otis Day

I've been making this sauce for years (given to me by my friend Mike) and it's become a family favorite. Here's the nitty gritty on how to ditch the jarred sauce, and create a masterpiece at home.

1 package fresh mushrooms

1 Small onion chopped

1# Ground Beef

1 Pkg Johnsonville Sweet Italian Sausage

1 Large Can Diced or Stewed Tomatoes

1 Small Can Tomatoe Paste

1 Envelope Onion Soup Mix

1 Tbls Brown Sugar

1/2 cup red wine

A dash of vinegar

1 Tbls Oregano

1 Tbls Sweet Basil

Minced Garlic or Garlic Powder to taste

Beef Stock if needed to liquify

Brown the ground beef, onions & mushrooms & drain grease. Add tomatoes, paste & all other ingredients. Let simmer for at least 1 1/2 hours. While simmering, cook the sweet Italian sausage in a separate pan, slice into 1 inch pieces & add to sauce.

Since my children like their sauce to look more like sauce, I run the tomatoes, paste, garlic, vinegar, through a food processor. It looks more "familiar" to them, but doesn't change the flavor.

Remember, the sauce will taste better the next day.
