  • PARENTS!! What you need to know about Snapchat

    Posted by Otis Day

Have you heard about Snapchat? Are you following your kids on Instagram? If not...it's time. If they're on Twitter, I'd suggest following on there too.

Snapchat is a photo app popular with high school and college kids.

Users can take photos of themselves or their surroundings and send it to their friends. The hook is, it's just a "snap". The photo self-destructs after just a few short seconds.

So many kids use it to send naughty pics that they don't want saved forever and passed around to others.

But keep in mind, the photos don't REALLY destruct forever. Users can take a screen shot of the photo before it disappears, or take a picture of their screen with another phone or camera. Snapchat does send a message to a user if their picture has been captured with a screen shot.

While many parents worry about the dangers of sexting with this app, one social media professor feels that once it's been studied many will be surprised that sexting isn't as pervasive on the app as silly pictures of friends and cats.

  • This dad is paying his daughter $200 to stay off Facebook!

    Facebook deactivation agreement

I read an interesting story on dailymail.co.uk about a dad and his 14-year-old daughter who signed a (legal) contract stating dad promises to pay her $200 if she can stay off Facebook for five months.

Scott Baier made his daughter Rachel sign a contact promising she would quit the social networking site from February until the end of the school year (June). He said in a blog post that quitting Facebook was his daughter's idea - and one that he fully supports.

I don't know if paying is the way to go, but monitoring and taking responsibility for our kids time on social networking sites, iPods, computers, tablets, and more is a good thing. My daughter got an iPod touch last year from her mom and its very consuming. You really need to limit time on it, especially if they have the ability to text, because then all the 11 year old drama at school comes home and is right there in the living room.

But paying $200 to stay off? Not sure I'm good for that.

  • *VIDEO*"God Made a Farmer" ad is a rip off

    Posted by Otis Day

    I read this on slate.com

One Super Bowl ad that made a big splash on Sunday was Dodge's "God Made a Farmer" which layered a famous Paul Harvey speech about farming over photos of farmers.

It turns out that in 2011, a site called Farms.com had already made this video - with slight differences.

Dodge essentially used the idea, with better production value and an ad for their trucks at the end of it.

  • The U.S. Post Office doesn't have to obey traffic laws?

    Posted by Otis Day

I read this story at cleveland.com

Traffic cameras in East Cleveland nabbed U.S. Postal Service Vehicles breaking the law seven times. The city sent a notice to the Post Office with a picture of the infraction and a demand for payment.

The Postal Service's attorney sent a letter in reply to remind the city about the U.S. Constitution. The letter said:

"As you are probably aware, the Postal Service enjoys federal immunity from state and local regulation. The Postal Service requires its employees to obey all traffic laws and rules while operating Postal Service vehicles. However, the state and/or local ordinances imposing penalties and fines cannot be enforced as against the Postal Service."

The East Cleveland Mayor had the comeback of the year: "I was unaware that the Post Office doesn't have to stop at red lights or obey the speed limit, but since they are, I wish I'd get my mail faster."

  • The best songs to work out to....

    Posted by Otis Day

I read this article on today.com

According to Spotify, there's an increase in workout-related playlists in early January. No surprise, but what's interesting is the playlists. It turns out that men work out to hip hop while women work out to dance tracks.

Spotify analyzed over 2.8 million workout-related playlists and found that men workout to artists such as Eminem, Kanye West, and Jay-Z while dance tracks by Ke$ha, David Guetta, and Bruno Mars filled up female playlists.

Eminem's "'Till I Collapse." Kanye West's "Clique," Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop," and Swedish House Mafia's "Don't You Worry Child" topped the guy's workout tunes, and in that order.

Ke$ha's "Die Young" topped the workout tracks of the ladies, followed by will.i.am's "Scream & Shout," Calvin Harris' "Sweet Nothing," and David Guetta's "Titanium."

Looking at the playlists belonging to both sexes together, Ke$ha's "Die Young" is still in the top spot, followed by will.i.am's "Scream & Shout" and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop."

This is how the top ten spots on the combined ranking look:

    1. "Die Young" by Ke$ha

    2. "Scream & Shout" by will.i.am

    3. "Thrift Shop" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

    4. "Don't You Worry Child" by Swedish House Mafia

    5. "Sweet Nothing" by Calvin Harris

    6. "I Cry" by Flo Rida

    7. "Clique" by Kanye West

    8. "Titanium" by David Guetta

    9. "Gangnam Style" by Psy

    10. "Locked Out Of Heaven" by Bruno Mars

  • Grope er no? Bieber gets freaky with a fan**PICTURE**

    Posted by Otis Day

    Justin and a female fan

This story has been all over the place today, I first read about it on starpulse.com

Justin Bieber seems to have groped a female fan during a picture, but his rep and the girl in the pic are denying he did anything.

In the pic, Justin has his arm around the shoulder of the fan and is kissing her cheek, but his other hand seems to be reaching for her chest.

The picture was on the bieberfever.com website for a minute before it was taken down, but by then, it was too late.

Speaking of the girl, she defended Justin by Tweeting: "IM DYING HAHAHAHHAHA IT LOOKS LIKE JUSTIN'S TOUCHING MY BOOB IN THE PICTURE AHAHAHAHHA. People can think what they want but I know what really happened & Justin does too so everyone else's opinions don't matter to me."

His rep said: "That definitely did not happen. He was pulling away from her."

    So......grope er no?

  • Super Bowl prediction by a computer that almost always gets it right

    Posted by Otis Day

PredictionMachine.com, a website that predicts the outcome of sporting events based on computer models, ran the 49ers vs. Ravens match-up through their system 50,000 times to see what the most likely outcome of the game will be.

The 49ers won the game 67% of the time, and scored an average of seven points more than the Ravens in the simulations, with San Francisco outgaining the Ravens by an average of 85 yards per game.

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco completed an average of 20.9 of 35.3 passes per game, with 1.3 touchdowns and 0.8 interceptions.

The 49ers' Colin Kaepernick completed an average of 17.2 of 28.8 passes, for 1.6 touchdowns and 0.8 interceptions, and rushed for 38 yards.

This particular computer model has predicted the correct winner of seven of the last nine Super Bowls.

  • BONUS OTIS HELP!-Top Touring Female of all time

    Posted by Otis Day

Madonna has been named as the world's top touring female artist of all time.

Her "MDNA" world tour grossed $305 million, ranking it number ten on Billboard's Boxscore all-time chart.

The numbers put Madonna between The Rolling Stones' 2002-2003 "Licks" tour ($311 million) and their 1997-1998 "Bridges to Babylon" tour ($274 million).

The "MDNA" tour actually finished behind Madonna's own "Sticky & Sweet" tour, which grossed $408 million in 2008-2009.
