Do I lose my man card if I say that I want to see this?
(That's okay, I guess if that means trading it in for a "family card" I'm cool with that)

  • Please stop cramming GLEE down my 2yr-old's throat!!!

    Posted by Corey Carter

Okay, so my daughter is not quite 2 years old, but she watches "Ses" (as she calls it) once...usually TWICE a day (thank you DVR!!)

I just found this....Sesame Street has created a show segment skit as a "parody" of the TV Show GLEE.

I know it's an insanely popular show, but I can't stand it.  And now my daughter is going to start to know about it and will probably become a fan someday and I'll have to take her to a lame Glee concert.   Please, Sesame Street, STOP THE MADNESS!  Stick to "C is for Cookie!!"

  • Check out the video of me stomping grapes for wine at Parellel 44

    Posted by Corey Carter

I guess my size fifteen feet don't give me an advantage with grape-stomping...

BTW: I only stomped 450ml worth of grape juice.  The winner (gal on far right) stomped 700ml worth.  I DID however, take a drink of my grape-juice after I was done...everybody else thought that was gross.  Go figure???

  • This could be the Ashwabenon Jaguar's MOST IMPORTANT Fan!!!

    Posted by Corey Carter

So last night the Ashwabenon cheer team was in studio with Tommy and with the cheer team, comes the MASCOT!!

    It's Joey the Jaguar!!

Being a mascot, it gets HOT, so Joey the Jaguar has devised a system (and he left this fan in our studio - I found it this afternoon):

    Fan

Looks like a Jaguar knows how to break open a computer and steal the fan!!

Or could we say this is the biggest FAN that Joey the Jaguar has?!?!

  • Pumped Up Kicks - Controversy!!

    Posted by Corey Carter

So we've been getting some complaint calls here at the radio station about the song "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People.

It's a strange-sounding song - very catchy -  but if you listen to the words, it is talking about a kid shooting other kids (or at least thinking about it.)

Here is a blurb from www.songfacts.com:

Mark Foster (Foster the People's lead-singer) explained the song's meaning to Spinner UK: "Pumped Up Kicks' is about a kid that basically is losing his mind and is plotting revenge. He's an outcast. I feel like the youth in our culture are becoming more and more isolated. It's kind of an epidemic. Instead of writing about victims and some tragedy, I wanted to get into the killer's mind, like Truman Capote did in In Cold Blood. I love to write about characters. That's my style. I really like to get inside the heads of other people and try to walk in their shoes."

So what do YOU think?  Should we play the "non-guns/bullets" version of the song...or is that taking it too far??   (Listen to this version below)

Let us know what you think below...

  • Amy Whinehouse Found Dead

    Posted by Corey Carter

Developing story as followed on Yahoo.com:

    http://news.yahoo.com/singer-amy-winehouse-found-dead-164948160.html

Troubled British singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead at her flat in north London, police said. She was 27 years old.

The Grammy award-winning soul singer struggled with well-documented drink and drug addictions. Her death is being treated as unexplained.

"Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square shortly before 4:05 pm (1505 GMT) today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased," a police statement said.

"On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained."

London Ambulance Service had been called to the flat at 3:54 pm (1454 GMT) and sent two ambulances.

Winehouse rocketed to fame after winning five Grammy awards off the back of her 2006 second album "Back to Black" and the hit single "Rehab".

In the run-up to her live return, Winehouse spent a week at an addiction treatment clinic in London, reportedly at the suggestion of her father, Mitch, over concerns that she was drinking too much before her shows.

But Winehouse pulled out of her European comeback tour following a disastrous opening performance in Serbia on June 18.

She was booed at the performance in Belgrade, as she appeared to be too drunk to sing.

Some 20,000 people gathered for the highly-promoted concert at the sixth-century Kalemegdan fortress, but many soon left.

During the concert, which lasted about 90 minutes, Winehouse could only mumble some of the lyrics, failing to follow her band.

Winehouse left the stage twice, with many fans showing their displeasure despite her band's attempts to calm the crowd.

She had also been scheduled to perform in Istanbul, Athens, Bilbao in Spain, Locarno in Switzerland, Italy's Lucca festival, Switzerland's Paleo Festival in Nyon, Nova Jazz and Blues Night in Wiesen, Austria, and Poland's Bydgoszcz Artpop Festival.

  • I ALMOST Fell for this telephone scam!

    Posted by Corey Carter

Earlier this week we had a big noon meeting at our radio station, so I decided to be a nice guy and order pizza's for the staff.

So I call Papa John's, place our order, and since I was going to pay via credit card, I just read them my credit card over the phone.  The friendly manager took the info and told us our order would be here at noon.   It's all good...

    Then...

About 20 minutes later I get a call in my office.  Our office phones here will always display the number calling in (Caller I.D.) but in this instance the number was blank.  I thought it was strange so out-of-curiosity I picked up the phone.

It was a man on the other line from Papa John's who said that thier computer system just went down and wanted to confirm our order.  He asked what I had ordered, then he confirmed my work address and company name.  He then asked for my credit card number to complete the order.

He was very kind, so I tried to play stupid and say "Oh, we'll just give the number to the driver when he gets here..."
The response was:  "Sir, we need your number to complete the order..."

My response was:  "Oh...okay, we'll I'll just give it to the driver when he gets here..."

His response was:  "Sir, you don't understand, we need your credit card number so we can complete the order and get you your pizzas..."

My response was:  "Well, we'll just pay by cash then when the driver shows up with the pizza.."

His response was:  "Sir, all we need is the credit card number that you just provided us so we can put the order into our system."

At this point, I was getting annoyed and suspicious...

My response was:  "Look, I'm not going to give you a credit card number, I have no idea if this is a legit call, YOU CALLED ME and are asking for my credit card number and I'm not going to give it to you!"

His response:  "I understand sir, you can give the number to the driver when he arrives, thank you goodbye.

    The call ended.

So I called back Papa John's and the manager (who took my original order) and he said thier computer system was fine, it DIDN'T go down and that somebody was trying to scam us!

HA HA HA!!   I felt empowered and smart...I had to cherish it, because I don't have those feelings very often!! :)

My wife used to work at a bank and said that the scammers were "phishing" and were on the Papa John's internal website when the manager was taking our order.  Luckily, programs will display all the information as you type it in, but the credit card numbers turn instantly into stars "*" after you enter them, so that was the only piece of information that they didn't have.  Kinda scary, huh?

LESSON LEARNED:   NEVER...NEVER...EVER Give your credit card number to somebody who calls YOU!

BTW:  The pizza tasted even BETTER after I knew that I beat the scam!!!
